――そもそも医師免許とはどんなものなのですか。
「医師であることを証明するものです。医師の業務などを定めた医師法によると、日本で医師になるには医師国家試験に合格しなければなりません。合格者に厚労相が交付するのが医師免許証です。賞状のような様式で、名前や生年月日、医籍と呼ばれる登録番号、交付時の大臣名などが記されています。『ニセ免許証』を作らせないようにと、『すかし』などの特殊な加工がされています。医師だと証明する書類はこれのみです」

間違える医者と間違えない医者は、どこが異なるのか？ いかにして医療現場でのエラーを回避するかという問題を考えるために、実例をあげ、医師の思考方法について探索する刺激に満ちたルポルタージュ。
人はルールを守るものだと、誰もが時々注意されながら育ってきた。様々な社会的状況の中での行動のルール、または遊び方のルールに変化がないときには、こうした注意はとても役に立つだろう。しかし人々が慣れ親しんでいるルールが変わった場合にはどうなるだろう。まさに現在、親や学校が立たされている状況がそうである。多くの国の政府が生産性を上げるため、世界を市場とした競争に勝つため、また精神の状態をよりよくするために、創造的思考の育成を最優先にするように方向転換をはかった。このことから家庭や学校で子どもがどのように育てられるべきかというルールが変わってきたのである。
未来のあり方を考えると人々に今までより一層、創造性が求められることがわかる。創造性のある人は、新しい知識への適応力、複雑なものを受け入れる能力が高い。また争いごとを平和裏に解決する力に富み、条件を良くする新しい可能性を探索し、退屈を回避、自己決定能力が高く、不確かな中でも平常心を保てる、増大していくばかりの消費者としての選択にも圧倒されない強さをもつなど、あらゆる点で強みを発揮できる。
創造性のある卒業生を輩出していくために学校はどう変わるべきか、様々な意見がある。しかしながら、創造的思考を育むために幼児期からの教育が大切であるという点で教育者たちの意見の相違はないようだ。また、小さな子どもは最も多くを母親や父親から学ぶという点でも異論はない。
大抵の人が親は子どもと一緒にテレビを見ることで子どもに教えられることがいかに多いかを見過ごしている。テレビは親に三つの大きな課題を投げかけている。1.親はどの番組を子どもに見せていいかの決定をしなくてはならない。2.メディアから送られるメッセージを理解する手助けをして子どもの批判的思考を育てる。3.子どもの言うことに耳を傾けたり、質問したりすることで、案内役としての親の質を大きく高められる。ほとんどの親が家族で見る番組があると報告しているし、実際、家族で過ごす時間が一番長いのは、テレビを見て過ごす時間である。
会話を促す質問
テレビを見ているときは、誰もが同じ画像や言葉を見聞きしているが、これまでの経験の違いから、見る人たちの年齢によって、同じ事柄に対しても異なった反応や結論が引き出される。この受け止め方の違いが、家族間の意見交換を豊かにし、それぞれの見方をお互いに理解させてくれる。
テレビで見たものを子どもがどのように解釈しているかを知る一つの方法は、質問することである。表1で、ほとんどのテレビ番組で使える親子の会話を促す質問と、その目的を列挙した。切り取ってテレビの脇に貼るか、リモコンの裏に貼ってみてはどうだろうか。
